Admission Requirements
Students applying for MSc in Software Engineering must have completed a BSc degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or other Engineering disciplines. Those students who do not have the required background in Engineering and Computer Science may be required to take additional courses, but that does not affect entry requirements. Students without an undergraduate degree in Engineering must satisfy mandatory requirements for athematics, Physics and other core subjects before applying to become certified engineers.
Applications are submitted electronically. The application deadline is at the end of May. Each application must, however, be accompanied by the following documentation, which must be sent by regular mail:
- An official transcript of the undergraduate program. A statement of the ranking of the applicant with respect to other graduates from the program is useful, where available.
- Two letters of recommendation from faculty members (or others), who are familiar with the academic abilities of the applicant.
- A “statement of purpose” which describes the future plans of the applicant, and how the MSc program at Reykjavík University can help the applicant reach his or her goals.
- Any additional information that can aid in the assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of the applicant.
- For students from areas other than Computer Science: Detailed course listings from the undergraduate program. These students may be required to complete preparatory classes from the undergraduate program at Reykjavík University, before joining the MSc program or during it.
- For international students, GRE scores are strongly recommended.
- For international students who are non-native English speakers, TOEFL scores, or comparable certifications are required.
The supporting documentation must be postmarked by the end of May and mailed to:
