BA Programme/180 ECTS

BA Programme/180 ECTS

Law study at Reykjavík University is an ambitious programme, placing high demands on students and teachers. Emphasis is placed on encouraging initiative in students and training them in public speaking and presentation. Lectures form part of the instruction, but  also include work sessions and seminars. Students are required to take an active part in class discussions. Study at RU Law School consists of basic study for a BA degree and graduate study for the ML degree.

”Having round-the-clock access to the University's premises is a great advantage. The University intranet also makes it easier to organize one's work. On the intranet you find computer slides for all the lectures, announcements from teachers and much more. Excellent study facilities and an easily accessible teaching staff help make Reykjavik University what it is – a good school.”

BA degree in law, 3-year study programme

The programme comprises 150 ECTS from the subject core and 30 ECTS from elective subjects. A detailed description of courses is published in the Course Catalouge.

3-year basic study programme
Instruction in the basic study programme covers all the core subjects of law study as well as courses in accounting and analysis of financial statements, legal information searching and methodology.

In the spring semesters of the first and second year students will work on special projects under a supervisor's direction. These projects demand independent work and a thorough grasp of the study content.

In the spring of their third year, students are given the option of increasing their specialisation with elective courses. Furthermore, they have the possibility of selecting subjects in tother faculties within the RU or other external subjects. Students have the option of taking part of their study at an educational institution abroad or at another Icelandic institution

Studies at other Universities

If approved by the School of Law, students can complete credits at other Icelandic or foreign universities. Students have the option of choosing courses in fields other than law within university departments in Iceland or abroad.

Cost

Tuition fees for the school year, 2009-2010, are 154.000 ISK per semester. These tuition fees enable RU to provide students with outstanding facilities and to increase the quality of its overall services.

Dynamic research

The RU School of Law endeavours to promote research into a range of legal areas. In order to make this possible, the school must be in a position to provide its teaching staff as well as its students with first-rate research facilities, for instance through the research institutes operating under the auspices of the School of Law.
