Electrical Technology
Electrical Technology is a practically orientated diploma program at the post secondary level, rooted in the industry. The program has a strong tradition of practical orientation in cooperation with the industry. The students´ project work plays a large role in their studies and most of the teachers have a background of practical experience.
In industry, electrical technicians work on a variety of tasks such as supervision, production management, operation and administration of enterprises in the field of electrical engineering, and electrical installation design. In addition they design controls for factory equipment, power stations and ships.
During the course of the Electrical Technology program the students add very considerably to their knowledge and competence. In the last semester they complete a final project wherein they demonstrate practical knowledge and professional competence when dealing with techical solutions relating to design, planning and development.
The Study Program
The diploma program is 90 ECTS credits and is operated solely as distance learning. The planned duration of study is 3 years alongside work, but by concentrating on full study activity the program can be completed in 1,5 years.
Admittance Requirements
It is required that the student has completed a vocational program plus one term at Reykjavik University´s preparatory department or equivalent. Preparatory courses can be taken as distance learning. The Diploma in Electrical Technology then gives the right to a master tradesman´s certificate.
