Accommodation

Reykjavik University does not offer accommodation on campus but in order to help international students, RU has made aagreements with few guesthouses where international students can rent a room with access to a kitchen, bathroom and laundry facilities. To use that service international students need to fill out the Housing Application Form and send it along with the information requested in the application process.

Students are under no obligation to use the service RU offers to find accommodation in Reykjavik. However, if students decide to find their own lodgings they must understand that they do so on their own responsibilities. It is certainly possible to find apartments to share with friends.

Room and living costs
The total cost of living in Reykjavík for an exchange student is around 120.000 ISK approximately. A monthly price for a room can range between 40.000 ISK and 60.000 ISK approximately. The remaining budget could count for entertainment, transportation, meals, etc. It will always depend on each student's lifestyle.

All these costs were obtained based on the information published by the Office of Icelandic Student Loan Fund.

Deposit
Most landlords ask for a deposit that will be refunded when moving out. However, if any damage will be done to the accommodation the landlord is allowed to withhold the sum required to repair the damage from the deposit.

Tenancy Agreements
Usually the landlord completes a tenancy agreement between the landlord and the person renting. Some guesthouses use a standard tenancy agreement from the Ministry of Social Affairs in Iceland. Before signing a tenancy agreement it is important to read it carefully.
