Services

LIRU offers all regular library services, such as loans, inter-library loans, information searches and other information services, general and specific. Alert services are an important part of LIRU's services, its purpose is to assist library users in monitoring their respective fields. This includes information about new materials in the library, electronic TOC mailings of selected journals, RSS feeds and saved searches. LIRU runs a reserve library where teachers can reserve materials for students of individual courses. In addition, LIRU handles all purchase and orders of textbooks for courses held at Ofanleiti and Kringla, as well as books for individual teachers and researchers paid by RU.

Information literacy programs are an important part of the services LIRU provides. The Library initiates and organises presentations of the e- library and electronic databases both on its own and in collaboration with faculty of all RU´s Schools.

LIRU has two library branches, in Nauthólsvík and Ofanleiti. Both locations have good study facilities and the library in Ofanleiti has group rooms which can be booked at the library desk or by email library@ru.is  The libraries are open 60 hours a week, but students with access cards have around the clock access to the facilities. Access to the electronic library is from all RU´s buildings 24/7.
